The Magic of London (by Paula Martínez García)

Last Tuesday, November 13, we decided to take a plane to London, although as the Spanish saying goes: "Tuesday, don't get married, or get on board". We paid no attention to it. We still could not believe it; we were finally going to have our first high school trip.

When we got there it was all more or less snowy, it was beautiful. During those five days in London, we walked a lot and saw spectacular places. One of the places that impressed me the most was the “Sky Garden”. The views were incredible! From there, where we could see the snowy castle, the Tower Bridge, the river Thames, all the boats, etc. from high above. Another thing that impressed me about the big city was the number of shops everywhere you go, and especially the considerable number of second-hand clothing stores.

Apart from the places and the shops, I was also curious about the great ethnic variety that there is, even within the same city there is a neighbourhood of Chinese people called "Chinatown".

Regarding the subway, it was a bit of a mess, since there were a lot of people, and when the doors were going to close, it did not matter if there was someone in the way or if you did not have time to enter, they closed anyway. A funny anecdote about the subway was when a group of classmates and two teachers could not get on the subway. We were all on, and they had to take the next one. Something similar happened to two friends and me, who got on the same subway, but in a different carriage, so we were separated from the whole group, and we did not know the stop, but they soon realized that we were in the other carriage, and they told us when we had to get off.

The hotel where we were staying was called “Royal National,” and the first day we had to leave a deposit of twenty pounds, which would be taken from us if we caused any kind of scandal or damage to the rooms. Being in the hotel all together and sharing moments was one of the best experiences in London.

Every night in the end we all ended up getting together although sometimes we were a bit noisy. In the end, on the last day, they returned our deposit, I still do not understand how...

The last thing I have left to tell you about is the return home by plane, which turned out a little worse than I expected. As soon as we checked in our bags (which took us a long time) they told us that there was an hour and a quarter of a delay, we were already tired, but it was normal. But when we had already boarded the plane and were about to take off, the pilot came out and tells us that there was a problem with the plane, that an engineer had to come and that we had to go back to the parking lot. I must admit that in those moments I felt a little scared, but in the end, everything worked out and we got home safely.
